About Part the Cloud
NewsFounded in 2012 by Michaela “Mikey” Hoag, Part the Cloud® is a movement to accelerate scientific progress in Alzheimer’s research by funding the most promising early phase studies.
After losing her father to early-onset Alzheimer’s, Michaela “Mikey” Hoag founded Part the Cloud in 2012 with the goal to educate, fundraise and to accelerate critically needed Alzheimer’s disease research. She realized that her personal story could have the power to rally people around the Alzheimer’s cause, so she partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association and a steering committee of women affected by the disease to launch the first Part the Cloud Gala. Much more than a star-studded fundraiser, Part the Cloud has become a movement to accelerate promising Alzheimers research.
Since its inception, Part the Cloud has raised over $17 million to support the mission to fund Alzheimer’s research with the highest probability of slowing, stopping or ultimately curing this disease. 100 percent of these proceeds are hard at work funding 17 research awards, spanning a variety of targets in Alzheimer’s disease research.
The research projects funded by Part the Cloud accelerate findings from the laboratory, through trials, into possible therapies — filling the gap in Alzheimer’s drug development by supporting early phase clinical studies. Funds raised by Part the Cloud have made it possible to grant 21 research awards since January 2013. The most recent Part the Cloud event raised a record-breaking $10.8+ million for cutting-edge research, bringing the total raised since 2012 to more than $17 million. These awards span a variety of targets in Alzheimer’s disease research and fall under the leadership of some of the nation’s most prestigious scientists and universities.
Most recently, Part the Cloud issued a first of its kind Challenge on Neuroinflammation, which will help increase our understanding of neurodegeneration through advanced imaging and accelerating the development of new therapeutic strategies to slow, stop, or prevent its’ progression. From a pool of applicants across the globe, four finalists were selected to receive $1 million each to develop their proposal over a two-year period. After two years, projects will be evaluated and the researcher with the most outstanding project will be awarded an additional $3 million prize to take the project and the field to the next level.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the worlds leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. As the largest non-profit funder of Alzheimer’s research, the Association is committed to accelerating progress of new treatments, preventions and ultimately, a cure.
Rivet Revolution is proud to partner with Mikey Hoag, the wonderful Part The Cloud Steering Committee, and the Alzheimer’s Association to help end Alzheimer’s.
